While in the US it's primarily on the 4th of July, in Japan it's nearly nightly all summer long: hanabi or fireworks. All over Japan during July and August, there are spectacular fireworks shows sometimes lasting nearly 2 hours. It's a big outing for the Japanese, and you'll see people dressed up in yukatas while attending them. Even after 10 years in Japan, it doesn't get old for me. I love going to watch hanabi. This relatively small one took place at a local matsui (festival) on the coast at Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, on the Izu Peninsula.
