About an hour upriver on the Nom Ou from Nong Khiaw sits Muang Ngoi Neau, another idyllic village. It's fairly remote. It is only accessible by boat (no roads), and everyone must have their own generators for electricity, meaning that there is only power from about 6pm - 10pm at most places. But it is an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place. The noisiest thing are the roosters that cackle early in the morning. There are also caves and other villages to explore about 3-4km away.
