We took a trek through the mountains north of Luang Prabang and stayed at a Khmer hill tribe village overnight. It was a wonderful experience, albeit a bit sad to see how poor these people are. No phones (although my Lao cell phone could get a signal!), electricity, running water, although mysteriously there was a satellite dish in the village. I guess perhaps they periodically get some electricity via a generator.
The children were particularly friendly to us. They followed us around and were fascinated by the camera. They even drank some beer and whiskey with us in the evening.
